Beta Demo Provides Side-by-Side Comparison of Wavelet vs. JPEG

Mystic, Connecticut, December 15, 2000 - After unveiling its new, proprietary Wavelet compression technology at the StreamingMediaWest show in San Jose, California this week, USA Video Interactive (OTCBB: USVO; CDNX: US; www.usvo.com) has made a beta version of its "WaveletHQ™ Viewer" available free of charge on its website: www.usvo.com. The company also has revamped its website to feature its StreamHQ™ suite of services and to make it easier for customers and potential clients to review many of the products and services offered by USA Video Interactive.

"It is exciting to be able to see first-hand how well our new Wavelet compression technology works. Visitors to our website can test it and gauge for themselves its quality and effectiveness," said Edwin Molina, President and CEO of USA Video Interactive. "The side-by-side comparisons are compelling demonstrations of the advantages our Wavelet offers, particularly at highly reduced file sizes that accommodate dial-up modems and maximize storage capabilities."

The USA Video Interactive Wavelet being demonstrated in this beta (test) version is a still-image compression technology that competes with JPEG and similar compression techniques. The still-image technology has numerous applications, such as website design and digital photography where it is important to be able to download images quickly or to store them in less space and at higher quality levels than available with other technologies. The still-image product is an interim step in development of a fully operational streaming solution that will be introduced in 2001.

The WaveletHQ™ Viewer allows users to compress black & white and color still images using USA Video Interactive's proprietary wavelet compression techniques. It also allows images to be created using JPEG compression and allows wavelet and JPEG compressed images of the same file size to be compared side-by-side in one screen. After installing and opening the WaveletHQ™ Viewer, the user can incrementally modify the compression factor up or down, observing the effect of the different compression technologies on the image. This beta version is intended for test and demonstration purposes; its functionality has purposely been limited. A fully functional version will be available for purchase in the near future.

When development of the streaming Wavelet technology is complete, the USA Video Interactive Wavelet will be offered as WaveletHQ™, one facet of StreamHQ™, which is an umbrella of end-to-end media services that leverage the capabilities of the Internet while bypassing its latencies. StreamHQ™ is designed to be highly available, reliable, flexible, scalable and cost-effective; it embodies USA Video Interactive's media services vision by bringing the disciplines of video distribution, data management, and the web together in a unique way to meet customer requirements.
