USA VIDEO INTERACTIVE ENTERS LATIN AMERICAN MARKET, SIGNS CONTRACT TO INSTALL TURNKEY SYSTEM IN CAREER COLLEGE IN PUERTO RICO
Thursday, 24 June 1999
MYSTIC, CONNECTICUT - USA Video Interactive and a consortium of career colleges in Puerto Rico and Florida have agreed to place a turnkey USA Video Interactive system at one of the colleges as the first step in a major Latin American deployment. This deployment will establish a distribution channel for marketing turnkey systems to career colleges, technical schools and other educational institutions worldwide.

The turnkey system includes an NT-based USA Video Interactive server and its Video-on-Demand™ and Wavelet technology; career-related content licensed from internationally renowned career education libraries; and installation, maintenance and training services from USA Video Interactive. The college will be one of the following, to be selected by the consortium's Board of Directors: International Junior College of Business and Technology, Rogies School of Beauty Culture, Institute of Beauty Careers, or Nouvelle Institute.

Once the initial phase is complete, USA Video Interactive will place turnkey systems in all four schools and begin marketing and licensing the turnkey systems in Latin America, mainland United States and worldwide. The project will demonstrate the capabilities of, and set a pricing structure for, the turnkey system, which brings the advantages of Video-on-Demand™ and widely used career-oriented educational content to the enormous technical school and career college market.

"With more than 100 million students in Latin America alone, this is a vast and virtually untapped market for our turnkey system," said Edwin Molina, President of USA Video Interactive. "Our system makes it economically possible to provide students with the very latest and most effective educational content in the world, delivered today by our state-of-the-art Video-on-Demand™ technology. This Latin American deployment will be the gateway to bringing this system to the rest of the world."

USA Video Interactive is an international designer and supplier of high-tech Video-on-Demand™ systems and services. The USA Video Interactive technology allows users to view streaming video or to access digitized video libraries, including movies, sports, other entertainment, educational resources, corporate training seminars and other archives. The USA Video Interactive technology gives users full-motion video; the unique flexibility of standard, VCR-like controls of play, fast forward, reverse and pause; and the convenience of a standard internet-browser format for access. USA Video Interactive can utilize MPEG-1, MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 compression techniques but prefers its Wavelet compression technology. The USA Video Interactive Wavelet technology allows direct streaming and download & play options; provides video images significantly faster and at a higher degree of resolution than with previously available methods; significantly overcomes bandwidth restrictions; and eliminates the blockiness and slowness of current technologies, all at a lower cost. An essential feature of the USA Video Interactive technology is that it allows extremely high compression ratios while retaining broadcast quality.
