HOLLYWOOD, CALIF, November 2, 1999 USA Video Interactive (NASD: USVO; ASE: US; www.usvo.com) will broadcast the 9th Annual L. A. Music Awards on the Internet on Thanksgiving evening, Thursday, November 25, 1999, at 7PM PST (10PM EST). The event itself will be held at the world famous House of Blues in Hollywood, California, on Thursday, November 18. Special guests include Jeff "Skunk" Baxter (1998 LAMA Lifetime Achievement Award winner and former member of Steely Dan, The Doobie Brothers, and Elton Johns band); Peter Tork (of the Monkees); Chuck Negron (of Three Dog Night); Kathy Valentine (of The Go-Gos and The Delphines); Eddie Money (with hits including "Two Tickets to Paradise" and "Baby Hold On"); Colin Hay (of Men at Work and the Colin Hay Band); and several other music leaders.
Featured performers include Paul Rodgers (who will receive the 1999 LAMA Lifetime Achievement Award), Slash (former lead guitarist for Guns N Roses), The Cohen Brothers (from Columbine High School), Jermayne Gordon (nominee, Outstanding R&B Artist), Claudia Brant (nominee, Outstanding Latin Artist), Beyond Control (nominee, Outstanding Rock Artist), and Full Frequency (nominee, Outstanding Techno/Industrial Artist). The event also will feature a special fashion show with Terri King Designs, which will be televised at a later date.
A Silent Auction is being held to benefit the "Friend of Mine Fund," the charity established for the survivors of the Columbine High School shooting earlier this year. As noted above, The Cohen Brothers are featured performers.
The opening address will be delivered by Edwin Molina, President of USA Video. USA Video Interactive and Artist Direct are major sponsors of the L. A. Music Awards. The Webcast is being produced by The House of Blues, USA Video Interactive, and Merging Rivers Media, a wholly owned subsidiary of USA Video Interactive. Postproduction will be overseen by House of Blues, L. A. Music Awards founder Al Bowman and L. A. Music Awards partner, Brent Harvey. The Webcast will utilize USA Video Interactive's Internet video, video-on-demand and Wavelet compression technology to provide a larger screen and more fluid stream of images than presently available from competitors technology. Sponsors will be recognized for making the event and broadcast possible, and visitors to the site will have the opportunity to purchase CDs and other memorabilia.
