USA Video Interactive To File Preliminary Patent for Its New Wavelet Compression Technology

Agreement with Vianet Technologies Ends

MYSTIC, Connecticut, July 20, 2000 - USA Video Interactive Corp. (US NBQ: USVO: CDNX: US; www.usvo.com) today announced it has begun the process of patenting its new wavelet compression technology with the U.S. Trademark and Patent Office. Also, agreements between USA Video Interactive and Vianet Technologies are ending by mutual agreement of both companies.

"We have some of the top wavelet experts in the world working with us now in a team headed by Dr. Albert Gerheim, and we are making faster progress than expected on a completely unique wavelet that is designed to be a significant improvement over competitors," said Edwin Molina, President and CEO of USA Video Interactive. "To protect this technological advance, we are starting the patent process."

"The relationship with Vianet did not develop as either of us had hoped and it is time for both of us to move on," said Molina. "We've increasingly been relying on MPEG4 as a compression technique for a variety of reasons, but we firmly believe that the wavelet we are developing will be even better in specific applications. It will result in a clearer, higher quality image that requires less bandwidth than other compression technologies," said Molina. "As always, we will continue offering our customers a choice of compression technologies as part of the overall end-to-end package of video services we provide."

Molina also noted that USA Video Interactive's researchers are progressing with the development of additional technologies including the development of a wavelet codec for the Unix platform widely used in education and in corporate America. "An additional advantage of designing our own patentable proprietary product is that we will be able to guarantee the quality and operability of this Unix codec when we turn it over to Sun Microsystems as contracted for use in its Solaris operating environment in SunT and Sun RayT servers," said Molina.
